Culture Walk

Hello Cameron Community,

We’re excited to kick off our first celebration of diversity at Cameron this school year with and assembly and walk in the community.

Why a Cultural Assembly and Walk:

Our Cultural Walk is more than a colourful event – it’s a living lesson in respect, empathy, and belonging. By seeing and sharing one another’s languages, flags, and traditions, students learn that differences are valued and that everyone has a place in our school community. Walking together also strengthens connections between families, staff, and students, turning diversity into something students can celebrate and learn from every day.

In classrooms, teachers are:

  • Talking with students about culture and the importance of respecting one another’s backgrounds.
  • Learning which languages students speak fluently and having students share some of their language with each other.
  • Finding out the countries where students and their families were born or have roots and sharing something they are proud of about their roots.

Ways your child can participate:

  • Dress in something that connects to culture for the assembly and walk.
  • Wear traditional dress.
  • Bring a country flag or symbol.
  • Wear a jersey from their country or the colors of the flag.
  • Send a traditional food in your childs lunch or a snack.

Many staff have already shared photos and information about their heritage and languages in a display near the office—please come take a look!

Cameron is such a wonderfully diverse school, and we can’t wait to celebrate the many cultures that make up our community on Thursday, September 25th!
