Information about New Report Cards

Report Cards will be sent home this week, and they are going to look a bit different than in years past. You may have heard that report cards and how schools in B.C. are communicating student learning to parents is in transition. Some schools only hand out a report card in June; other schools are not using letter grades and still other schools have completely unique reporting templates.

Why is this happening? It’s all connected to the new redesigned curriculum and the Ministry of Education Interim Reporting Order. I have provided links below to both items for your information.

In Burnaby, Elementary Schools were given three options. Option A schools have developed their own unique reporting templates and processes; Option B schools have transitioned to using the Ministry of Education template through MyEd BC; and Option C schools will continue to use the old template until June at which time they will transition to the MyEd BC template (same as Option B).

Here at Cameron we are an Option B school. What does that mean to you? It means that you will still see three report cards during the year. Primary Students will continue to receive performance indicators (although the language has changed) and Intermediate Students will continue to receive letter grades.

The new MyEd BC template is different than the one we used last year and there have been a few bugs to work through as we made the transition. For example, in some cases, “boxes” showed up on the final report that were not supposed to be there…and we can’t get rid of them. We are working with the District to have these issues corrected before we distribute Term 2 reports.

Also, last year’s report cards had information printed on the back that explained the report card and what the letter grades meant. At this time, we are not able to reprint that information on the current report card, but we have uploaded it to our school website at  (direct links below).

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your classroom teacher or me (Mr. Post).
